Our History

James
Founder & CEO
Started an entrepreneurial career with an e-commerce business out of his college apartment. After selling off the business upon graduation he spent some time in the stock market trading options. Realizing his true interest in the field of growing businesses, he shifted to starting to work with companies looking to accelerate their growth. Over the last 6 years James has managed over $250MM in client transactions, advising over 50 companies in securing alternative capital solutions for their companies. Today James is charged with leading development & execution of the firm's vision, driving growth in overall sales & business development.
John
Co-Founder & President
Has always had a passion for working with innovative people who want to make a positive impact on the world. This passion led him into the fields of politics and governance early in his career, affording him the skills and experience he carries with him to every venture today. He worked in Washington D.C. during which time he collaborated with legislative directors to craft new policies and research new avenues for progress. Shifting to the Massachusetts State House, he further developed his skills in problem-solving and identifying creative solutions to each project on which he worked. This experience in creative problem-solving and working within teams drove John to the venture space.
5th Line launched as an early-stage business advisory firm, we quickly expanded into a more traditional, project-based financial services firm focused on companies from pre-revenue through $1MM in revenue.

Soon, as our firm grew, we began seeing clients seeking capital while trying to mitigate dilution through traditional convertible notes or direct equity raise. We conducted several months of research to launch our venture debt advisory practice - taking on clients seeking primarily $250k - $1MM in capital.

Since establishing ourselves in the venture debt space, our solutions have grown more sophisticated to meet the needs of our evolving client base. Our firm now takes on clients seeking as much as $250MM in capital and we have expanded our services offering to include strategic and operational financial services to various companies at all stages of their growth.

Our Name

Legacy is at the heart of our firm. That is why we work as hard as we do to serve our clients, and why we continue to innovate to expand our firm into new markets.

Commonly asked about a hockey fan reference (the Fifth Line tends to be representative of a hockey team's biggest fans), our name stems from that of Founder & CEO, James Turner. James, being the 5th generation of his name in his family felt that representing his lineage in the name of the firm would be the best way to showcase the pride taken in the work that we do and the clients we serve.
